- Nolan Ryan is in the HOF based solely upon him teaching Robin Ventura a lesson. The 7 no hitters, 5,000+ strikeouts, and 100+ mph fastball are all gravy.

- What you're missing is he managed 287 wins despite playing 4.5 seasons on terrible Cleveland Indian teams in the early 80s. Winning 20 games in a season X number of times takes more than being a great pitcher.

- First off, Nolan Ryan is in the Hall of Fame (1999). John, Tiant, and Guidry all spent considerably more time with better teams during their careers than Blyleven and their career numbers reflect this. That said, IMHO they were not even close to the pitcher Blyleven was.

- Bert Blyleven in Cooperstown is a no-brainer and (sadly) remains a most glaring omission. Blyleven's strikeout total -- 3rd in MLB history when he retired -- was not at all aided by pitching from a 15" high mound (pre-1969).
